There are so many things I wish I knew in life but the more I think about it, the more I know….
Your 20’s are the perfect time to start experimenting with life properly. Getting out of your comfort zone has got to be the single most challenging things I, and I’m sure many others of us face on a regular basis. Doing things that challenge us, push us, test us and make us feel generally uncomfortable is just tough.. no way around it. This is hard!
For a long time I thought to myself, why would I want to do things that made me feel uncomfortable and for a long while (too long) found little need to push myself in certain areas. I thought, if it’s something I don’t enjoy naturally and makes me feel uncomfortable then maybe I shouldn’t be doing it, and so I didn’t. I bet you could guess what happened next right… absolutely NOTHING. To put it quite simply, nothing happened because nothing changed.
Work to live don’t live to work
Average careers last from the age of 21 – 65. Thats plenty of years of hard graft, if you’re just living to work that could feel like an eternity! Turn it around and work to live and don’t sacrifice your happiness.
Plan it, book it, take the flight. Do it and do it as often as you can.
Making memories are everything, don’t look too far ahead or dwell too much on the past. A collection of memories of things in present time is gift enough
Go to the festival
I did not do this nearly half as much as I wished! Whilst you’re never too old to enjoy a festival, priorities change and you may find when you do want to go, you don’t have so many people to go with anymore!
Put down your phone or laptop and give people your attention. People may not remember what you say, but they will remember how you made them feel.
Life is just more fun this way.
Save little and often
Nothing feels better than knowing you have a little safety net. Do it at the beginning of each month so you pay yourself first. Soon it becomes a habit and you won’t even notice it. Whatever you can afford, even if it’s £50 a month for 10 years… err yes please.
Your never too young to start meditating, such a great way to switch off and centralise.
Be an individual
Know your worth. Do your own thing, and do it well.
Make good friends
Because life is more fun when there are memories to share. Find them, keep them, love them. x
